Man With Private Insurance Paying for Maternity Care

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Fred, living in Santa Monica, was unknowingly paying for maternity coverage. Being single and a guy mattered not due to a clerical error.

Fred, a confirmed bachelor and still single, upon receiving his monthly statement, was shocked to discover that his health insurance premium had nearly doubled one month. Upon further investigation when he called his agent to complain, he learned that for more than two years he’d been paying an extra $104.00 per month, and that this resulted from maternity coverage.

“That should be easy to fix,” he confidently told his agent, “I’m single and a 59-year-old male. When do I start getting the lowered rate, and maybe money returned to me retroactively?”

“Not so fast,” Fred’s inadequate agent blithely replied, “You failed to correct it.”

“I failed to correct it?”

“That’s right. It’s your responsibility.”

“How is it my responsibility?”

“I can explain it to you.”

“Please do,” whimpered Fred, now shaken to the core of his being after realizing that for two years he’d been categorized by his trusted insurance carrier as having the potential to become a pregnant woman and never so much as eaten a pickle. Recovering a bit of his dignity, he started to become indignant, something that the agent could instinctively sense.

The agent now realized in the nick of time that explaining how the mistake had come to be was not only prudent but the right thing to do.

“Here’s what happened,” he began blithely spouting, “When you first joined up with this health insurance plan, we sent you a booklet describing coverage in every particular. The maternity coverage clause was mentioned in that. You should have chosen a plan that excluded maternity coverage to begin with. The plan you picked had maternity coverage in case you became pregnant. ”

“But I’m a guy.”

The agent softened a bit hearing that. “You had ten days to examine the coverage. We never heard from you about maternity coverage.”

Fred won’t get his money back but it’s not too late to find a competent California Health Insurance Agent.

Medicare Supplement Plans Fill the Gaps for Seniors

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Alfred was under the mistaken impression that Medicare was all he was entitled to, gaps and all. His California Health Insurance Agent Matt set him straight.

Alfred H., age 104, lives in Escondido. He’s been blessed with relatively good health, although he fractured his hip while in an infantry unit, an imaginary one, when he fell out of his uncle’s pear tree, in 1918 when he was only 14.

Alfred’s wife died in 1980, and occasionally his son Zeke, 73, stops by to visit. Zeke has had a succession of health issues, and retains Matt’s California Health Insurance Services, with Matt Lockard as his agent. Zeke has a Medicare Supplement Plan for 65+ seniors that serve his needs well. But Alfred has no agent and Original Medicare only witch is full of gaps. Suddenly, just in the past few months, his hip has been giving him trouble.

“I never saw you break your hip,” Zeke told his Dad, “did you take a fall recently?”

“Nope,” Alfred said, “It happened before you were born.”

“That sure isn’t recently,” Zeke agreed. “Are you going to have it fixed?”

“Can’t,” Alfred said, “My Medicare will only pay for part of it. I went to see the doctor, he said I’d need surgery and the break is still there. In 90 years, it’s never completely healed.”

“It might get worse,” Zeke agreed, “you could end up like one of those old men and have to use a walker.”

“I’m over 100 now, it’s too late. Medicare by itself is the best option for me.”

“Why don’t you see my California health insurance agent, Matt Lockard?”

Alfred drove over in his beloved Studebaker that still ran clean as a whistle. He spoke to Matt. Matt helped him understand how Medicare Supplement plans work.”

The surgery was successful. For the first time in 50 years, Alfred called Lissie up on the phone. He’d known her from way back. “Do you want to go dancing?” he asked her.

Matt’s California Health Insurance Services Offers Travel and Worldwide Medical Plans

Friday, November 14th, 2008

The man was traveling to Andorra and Botswana and needed coverage in the worst way.

Andrew P. was like the Sir Richard Burton of Littlefield, Ohio, except that he wore a trench coat and a glass eye like Colombo. He traveled every chance he could, especially internationally. But his wife Morticia, herself actually an actuary, insisted that he get travel medical insurance this time.

“I’m not going to spend two months worrying while you’re gone,” she said in her shrill Arkansas twang that Andrew had long found annoying.

Andrew had gone to several California Health Insurance agents already. A few carried medical plans for travel, even worldwide plans, but there were always exceptions relating to the coverage in the fine print. One agent covered travel to Europe, but not to Africa during the same excursion. Andrew needed both continents in his itinerary. He was in search of fossilized giant earwig remains. He’d already been to the most likely hunting ground, Saint Helena Island in the South Atlantic, but hadn’t found as much as a single carapace during that marvelous journey.

It was only by fortuitous chance that he stumbled upon Matt’s California Health Insurance Services as a walk-in, just a few weeks before he was to embark on this latest journey.

Matt Lockard swiftly sized up the walk-in customer with the disheveled “scientific researcher” cast to his red-bearded angular face, and knew almost immediately what he wanted. “Travel insurance, a worldwide medical plan. You’re going on a trip,” he guessed astutely, “to Botswana and Yemen.”

“Wrong,” corrected Andrew P., world traveler, “Botswana and Andorra.”

“Need a plan?” Matt queried after being properly chastened.

“You betcha,” replied Andrew, with a glimmer of happiness in his left eye.
